Coca Cola was launching Thums Up Charged, and we were making a game for its launch campaign.
It was an endless runner game connected with Kinect Controller to control the character. The player has to run to make the character move, jump left and right to avoid meteors, collect Charged energy, and raise their hands left and right to charge the building. If the player runs out of Charged energy, the player is given a Thums Up Charged to drink, and this in turn refills the energy in the game and the player starts running again. The game ends when the player fails to charge a lot of buildings.
We attracted a huge crowd, and a lot of players played the game very eagerly and had a lot of fun. Almost 1000 people played the game in this two day event.
We set up a leader board system, and the player to beat the highscore got a free hat as a compliment. Needless to say, I stayed at the top position for an entire day (we still gave hats though). Had to remove my highscore the next day.
I had more than 10 cans of Charged the first day, and I was a bit buzzed for the most part of the day.
Seeing others enjoy what you have done for the past couple months is the best part of this job. You seldom feel satisfied until you see the smile and excitement of the players.
I love being a Game Programmer.
